Horizon Tennis would like to share a special event coming up in a few weekends time at our Moggill venue! The Karana Bellbowrie Rotary has been busy planning a fun family day out and the best part is... Horizon Tennis are providing some on-court fun to keep the kids entertained (including fun competitions and prizes!). For the parents in attendance, the event is also a great chance to speak to the coaches about the different classes we have on offer.

So what are you waiting for!? Come on down to Moggill District Sports Park for some fun, a good feed and a laugh. It is a great chance to get involved with the 4070 community and meet local businesses from all around the area. There will be fun competitions, games, a jumping castle and food vans on the day. A family-friendly event for all, we can't wait to see you there.

Congratulations to our Team Challenge and Club Champ Winners!

Over the past two weekends the Horizon Tennis juniors have defied all odds. We held off the wet weather for just enough time to host our inaugural Team Challenge and Club Championship competitions!

We were thrilled to see students from Green, Orange and Red Ball levels compete over the course of the two weekends at the Our Lady of the Rosary school in Kenmore.

Kids social competitions are a positive environment where juniors can practice how to serve and score, as well work together in doubles tournaments which are all great life skills.

If you missed out this time don’t worry! We will be hosting more competitions at the end of Term 2 so the juniors can test how much they’ve improved over the course of the term.

We have an exciting announcement.... Horizon Tennis has expanded to the Indooroopilly community! We have partnered with Ambrose Treacy College to provide tennis lessons for not just ATC students but the broader Indooroopilly and Fig Tree Pocket communities.

Registrations Now Open! | Junior Competitions Coming Up at Horizon Tennis

Do you want to be the next Club Champ?

It only comes around once in a while so don’t miss the chance to compete for a Championship title! Our Club Championships will be held from 3-5pm on the 27th of March at the Our Lady of the Rosary (‘OLR’) courts in Kenmore! The format will be a singles tournament with four fast sets.

Think your junior is ready to be the next Club Champ? If they have played at least two terms of tennis and can serve, rally and score then sign them up using the link below!

If you don’t think you’re quite ready to compete at a performance level, we are also running a Team Challenge . This event will be held on the 20 March from 3-5pm at the OLR courts in Kenmore. On the day of the tournament players will be grouped by colour class and move through the matches as a team.

This competition is open to all members including Orange, Red and Green ball and is a great way to meet new friends who are also members of the Horizon Tennis Club.

We would love to see all of our Juniors at Horizon Tennis get involved in this fun event to practice some of the new skills they have been learning!

Looking for qualified candidates to join our growing team!

Horizon Tennis is hiring an Assistant Tennis Coach!

We are looking for an assistant coach to join us across multiple venues. It is an initial casual position and will consist of approx. 10-20 hours on court, with opportunity to grow to a full-time position. The right person for this position will enjoy travelling to different venues on a weekly/daily basis within a 10 km radius and can comfortably transport equipment from venue to venue as needed in their own vehicle.

This position is designed for a junior development coach that has experience coaching hot shots, junior level leagues and social tennis matches. Please note this is a club coach environment rather than solely high performance.

The coaching will consist predominately of:

-Hot shots coaching

-Schools coaching

-Junior Development/Junior leagues

-Adult/ game fit coaching

-Private lessons

Off-court duties will involve:

-Assisting with game fit group scheduling

-Assisting with junior league competition

-Promoting and building participation at the venue

Requirements:

QLD Drivers Licence, Must have own vehicle

Preferably you are a Tennis Australia coach member, otherwise you must be able to provide provide a Current Working With Children Check (Blue Card) and First Aid certification.

If you are applying you should be a team player who is willing to occasionally do court maintenance and off-court duties. You should be passionate about coaching and your personality should be outgoing, confident, and friendly. You should be detail oriented and able to manage your allocated schedule promptly and with responsibility.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to be a part of a growing team where the culture encourages communication, and a fun, professional atmosphere.

Registrations Now Open for Term 3 Team Challenge!

Great news, we will be holding the Horizon Tennis Team Challenge this term!

Players compete as part of a team in a low pressure, fun environment against players of the same class level (red, orange, green).

Teams play each other in a round robin format with timed matches. All players are active and engaged from start to finish and there is a start and end time to the event. No waiting around all day for a match to begin or end. No need to worry about organising teams, we take care of all of that.

No previous tennis competition experience is needed. This is just as much of an educational event than it is a competition.

As COVID-19 rules change we will update you about whether or not we can allow families to be onsite during the event watching.

The only way tennis becomes a sport is if kids play matches and kids that play matches get a whole lot more out of their tennis experience. I encourage all players to take part in this event.

Red Ball : 5th Sept , 1:30-3:00pm

Orange Ball : 5th Sept, 3:30 - 5:30pm

Green Ball : 12th Sept, 3:00-5:00pm

Term 3 Makeup Classes Dates and Details

Have you missed a class? Need to book in for a Makeup? Here's how...

We hope everyone is staying safe and being extra careful out there right now, given the recent events in the greater metro region, we anticipate that we will have more personal absences, and we encourage this as a matter of keeping our greater community of tennis players and their families safe.

As part of our COVID-SAFE plan, it is imperative that the following people not visit Horizon Tennis facilities:

1. Anyone with COVID-19 or has been in direct contact with a known case of

COVID-19 in the previous 14 days.

2. Anyone with Flu-like symptoms or who is a high health risk (e.g. due to age or

pre-existing health conditions).

3. Anyone who has travelled internationally.

4. Anyone who has travelled to a COVID declared hotspot .

As per our Terms and Conditions for missed classes;

Missed classes due to personal absence or rain must be made up within the same term as the absence either for class or towards credit for holiday camp.

Makeup opportunities include, Horizon Tennis allocated makeup days, classes on the normal schedule with advertised availability (i.e within class registration calendar found here .

No refunds for missed classes due to personal absence or rain.

FairPlay Vouchers, who qualifies and key dates!

Parents, carers or guardians can apply for a voucher valued up to $150 for their child or young person, which can be used towards membership, registration or participation fees with registered activity providers.

Eligible applicants are Queensland children and young people aged 5 to 17 (inclusive) who either:

hold or whose parent/carer/guardian holds a valid Department of Human Services Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card with the child’s name on it
If a parent/carer is currently receiving JobSeeker payments, they are eligible for a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, and can apply for a FairPlay voucher using this card.
are identified by a registered referral agent.

*Please note that there is a limit of one voucher per child/young person per calendar year, applications are open twice a year. If a child receives a voucher in the summer (January-April) round of the program, they will not be eligible to apply for the winter (July-September) round of the same year.

Key dates

6 July 2020: New round applications open.
7 October 2020: Applications close.
11 November 2020: Vouchers expire and must have been presented to an activity provider.

As part of the FairPlay terms and conditions for activity providers, Horizon Tennis can’t provide a refund for any part of a voucher to a parent or guardian. However, for any remaining registration fees, our terms and conditions apply.

Winter Holiday Break Tennis Camp is Here @ Our Lady of the Rosary School

Whew! What a busy few weeks it has been!

We have really enjoyed having you back on court and with a great attitude!

Thank you to one and all for your support as we re-opened through this difficult time and welcomed our Horizon Players back!

We have had a lot of early interest this term for our Winter Camp and we are excited to say registration is officially open!
